In logic programming, the role of speci cation is all the more unclear since logic programs are often used as executable speci cations. In this paper we conduct a preliminary study of two useful forms of logic speci cations: if-and-only-if and partial speci cations. First we set up a three-tier formalism for synthesis. Then within this formalism we de ne these two forms of speci cations, and discuss their roles in synthesis.
